Abstrak :

This research was motivated by the low critical thinking skill of class X IPS students geography subjects SMA Negeri 1 Pariangan Tanah Datar District. it was caused by several factors including, if students were faced with a problem students are still unable grup discussions. The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the effect of problem solving learning models on the critical thingking skills of student of class X IPS at SMA Negeri 1 Pariangan Tanah Datar District. This research was classified as a quantitative research method. The method of this research was true experimental design. The sampling technique was random sampling. The research instrument used a test that was carried out when it has finished giving treatment. The population of this research was all of the social class (IPS class) at X grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pariangan 2018/2019 academic year. It consisted of six classes with 188 students. The sample in this study was class X IPS 6 as an experimental class consisting of 32 students in SMA Negeri 1 Pariangan Tanah Datar District in 2018/2019. With a significant result of 0.013 established as an agreed criterion of a sig (2-tailed) value of α 0.05 with a t-test result of 2.556, this value indicates that the learning model solves problems related to thinking abilities that support students.
