Abstrak :

Backgrounds of the research were that student’s mathematical learning outcome at

VIII class SMPN 1 Nan Sabaris, Padang Pariaman Regency was under the minimum

completeness criteria and students were afraid of giving question and sharing their ideas.

The research was to find out whether student’s mathematical learning outcome by applying

active learning strategy of Giving Question and Getting Answer type is better than

conventional learning at VIII SMPN 1 Nan Sabaris. It was an experimental research with a

research design i.e. random subject. The population was all students at VIII class SMPN 1

Nan Sabaris consisting 7 classes registered on 2016/2017. Sampling technique was random

sampling where VIII.1 class as the experimental class and VIII.3 class as the control class.

The instrument of the research was an essay final test. The technique used was one party t

test. Based on the result of data analysis, it shows that both sampling classes have normal

distribution and homogen. Standard deviation of experiment class is lower than control

class where the experiment class is 12,99 and control class is 15,03. It shows the score of

experimental class is closely distributed to the average score.

Hypothesis is accepted where the significance level is α = 0,05. It can be

concluded student’s mathematical learning outcome by applying active learning strategy of

Giving Question and Getting Answer type is better than conventional learning at VIII

SMPN 1 Nan Sabaris.
