Abstrak :

        This study aims to find out how student activities by implementing an active learning strategy type Learning Starts With A Question and whether students 'mathematics learning outcomes by applying active learning strategies type Learning Starts With A Question is better than students' mathematics learning outcomes by applying conventional learning. This research is an experimental study with a randomized research design on the subject. The population of this study were all students of class VIII of SMPN 9 Padang. The instrument used was the observation sheet of learning activities and final tests.Based on learning activity data from the observation sheet student learning activities obtained results of an increase in student learning activities. Based on the results of data analysis it is known that both classes of samples are normally distributed, homogeneous and the proposed hypothesis is accepted.So it was concluded that there was an increase in student activity by applying the type of active learning strategy Learning Starts With A Question as well as students 'mathematics learning outcomes by applying the type of active learning strategy Learning Starts With A Question (LSQ) better than students' mathematics learning outcomes by applying conventional learning to students class VIII of SMPN 9 Padang
