The use of Facebook as a social network has various negative and positive impacts depending on its use by the community. The purpose of this study was to describe the function of Facebook for students of STKIP PGRI West Sumatra. The theory used is the theory of actor actions put forward by Weber. The research informants were taken by purposive sampling, namely students who have a Facebook account and actively use Facebook and actively use Facebook. The research informants were 10 people. Data is collected through observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis is done by data reduction techniques, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the Facebook function for STKIP PGRI West Sumatra students is a means of establishing friendship. The function is carried out by making friends with many people, both peerless and not with families. The next function is as a means to sell online, because many Facebook friends open up market opportunities to sell online. The Facebook function also serves as a means of searching for information, namely information about the campus and lectures that are informed by friends on Facebook and information about the village, because most students are nomads in the city of Padang. Students also carry out the negative function of Facebook, namely to watch adult content is one form of negative Facebook function. There are still some STKIP PGRI West Sumatra students who use Facebook social networks to open porn sites because of links to view pornographic sites and friends who upload pornographic videos or sites so students participate in adult contests. The next negative function of facebook is to play online games to addiction and create status that mocks and quips others.
