Larvae Oryctes rhinoceros L. is a pradature insect that looks very different from
the adult insects that are often found in the remnants of rotted organic matter
for example in the stems of oil palm that have been obsolete. Food is a source
of nutrients used by insects to live and breed, if it is available with suitable quality and
quantity the insect population will rise rapidly. The development of horn
beetle larvae is also influenced by abiotic factors (environmental factors),
like: temperature and humidity. This reseach aims to find out the population density of horn beetle
larvae on degraded timber of oil palm oil in Kenagarian Koto Baru, Luhak Nan
Duo district, west Pasaman regency. This
research was conducted in June 2017. This research method is descriptive
survey, determining the location of the research by using purposive sampling
technique. Where the location of the collection is based on the vegetation
where the horn beetle larvae are collected. Sampling of horn beetle larvae was
done by direct collection of horn beetle larvae present at research location by
hand (handsortir) and dodos palm kits (egrek sawit), sampling done in the
morning. The results showed that the population density of horn beetle larvae
on the weathered sticks was 2.9 head stem as high as close to the threshold.
Environmental factors at the site support the life of beetle horn larvae.
