Education is a level that we must take in life. To achieve the success of an education, curriculum is needed as a reference for implementation. The curriculum currently used in Indonesia is the 2013 Curriculum, where there is a cross-interest program in it. Cross-interest is an opportunity for students to take subjects other than the chosen course. Based on the results of the interview of observation, the difficulties students face when learning biology come from internal and external factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors causing the learning difficulties of Biology students in class XI IPS SMAN 9 Padang. This research was a descriptive research. The population in this study was all students of class XI IPS who participated in the cross-interest of biology with 156 students. 25% were sampled of each class consisted of 40 students. Technique sampling in this study used purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was a questionnaire in the form of a closed statement and documentation. The data analysis technique used descriptive quantitative in the form of a percentage. The results showed that internal factors that caused learning difficulties in students amounted to 67.57% with high criteria and the average percentage of external factors is 68.70% with high criteria. It can be concluded that the internal factor causing the greatest difficulty in learning biology was the fatigue factor with a percentage of 78.75% and External factors causing the greatest difficulty in learning biology are family factors with a percentage of 69.33%.
