Abstrak :

            This research is motivated by problem that students find it difficult to understand structure and rules of language, and pupils have hard pouring ideas or thoughts into written form. Lack of learners experience or insight in writing explanatory texts. This study aims to describe effect of use of the Picture And Picture learning model on ability to write explanatory texts in class XI leanerd scholar of SMA Negeri 9 Padang. This type of research is quantitative research using experimental methods. design of this research is One Group Pretest-Postest Design. population of this research is all someone of grade XI of SMA Negeri 9 Padang. sample in this study was class XI under-graduate of SMA Negeri 9 Padang, amounting to 32 people. data in this study are score of explanatory text writing ability before using Picture And Picture learning model and the ability to write explanatory text after using Picture And Picture learning model for class XI junior of SMA Negeri 9 Padang. results of this study can be concluded as follows. First, students' ability to write explanatory texts before using Picture And Picture learning model obtained an average score of 59.16 with sufficient qualifications (C). Secondly, novice ability to write explanatory texts after using Picture and Picture learning model obtained an average value of 83.75 at a range of 76-85% with good qualifications (B). Third, based on results of the t-test, there is an influence of use of Picture And Picture learning model on ability to write explanatory text for grade XI graduate of SMA Negeri 9 Padang because tcount> ttable (8.23> 1.70).
