Abstrak :

      The purpose of this study was to find out whether there was an increase in understanding of mathematical concepts of students of class VIII10 of SMP 1 Batang Anai by using the Cooperative Learning Type Think Pair Share (TPS) Model. This type of research is pre-experimental research, with research design Pre-test and post-test group. The study population was all eighth grade students of Batang Anai 1 Junior High School who were enrolled in the 2018/2019 Academic Year, totaling ten classes. The sampling technique is purposive sample. The class chosen as the sample class is VIII10. The instrument used was the matter of the pretest and posttest in the form of essays. The data analysis technique used is the one-part t-test. Based on the results of hypothesis testing with α = 0.05, then the value of t is obtained= 2.338 and t table = 1.645, because t count> t table then H0 is rejected. Thus it can be concluded that there is an increase in understanding of the mathematical concepts of class VIII10 students of SMP 1 Batang Anai.
