Abstrak :

The purpose of this research is to determinne the effect of using the Collaborative Learning model  assisted with picture media on the ability in writing descriptive texts of students in SMP Negeri 1 Dua Koto Kabupaten Pasaman  grade VII. This type of research is a quantitative research using the experimental method. The design of this study is the Pretest-Posttest One Group. The population in this study were all the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Dua Koto that registered in the 2017/2018 school year totaling 118 people and a sample of 29 people with the Purposive Sampling “sampling techniques”. Data is collected using performance tests. The free variable in this study is the collaborative learning model and the dependent variable in this study, namely writing descriptive text.The results of this study are, First, the ability in writing descriptive texts of the students  in SMP Negeri 1 Dua Koto grade VII before using collaborative learning assisted by image media obtain an average value of 53.10 with almost enough qualifications at a range of 46-55%. Second, the average value of the ability to write descriptive text after using the collaborative learning model assisted by media images of the students in SMP Negeri 1 Dua Koto grade VII is 79.76 with a good qualifications in the range of 76-85%.Third, there is a significant effect of using collaborative learning models assisted with picture media on the ability in writing descriptive texts of the students in SMP Negeri 1 Dua Koto grade VII. This is evidenced by the results of the research that show that the value of tcount (6.92) > t table (1.70), so that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted.
