Abstrak :

This research was motivated by student mathematical concept understanding are

still relatively low, unfocused, ashamed to asking a question, and passive in learning. The

research was to find out whether student’s mathematical concept by implementing direct

learning model with spotlight technique was better than conventional learning. Type of

the research was experimental research with a research design random subject. Population

was all of the class VII student registered in Junior High School 25 in Padang. Sampling

technique is random sampling where VII class VIII.4 as the experiment class and VIII.3

class as the control class. The instrument used was final test in an essay form with test

reliability r = 0,84. The result shows that the average score of experimental class

student is 75,87 with standard deviation is 14,05. Meanwhile, the control class is 69,06

with the standard deviation is 15,20. Hypothesis testing is conducted by t test where tcount

1,83 and ttable 1,67. Based on the data analysis, it is found that both of the class are

normally-distributed and homogeny. tcount > ttable, so that the hypothesis is accepted. It can

be concluded that student’s mathematical concept by implementing direct learning model

with spotlight technique was better than conventional learning at VII Junior High School

25 in Padang.
