Abstrak :

This research is motivated by the majority of students not participating or not participating in learning activities and understanding students mathematical concepts is still low. This study aims to determine whether understanding students mathematical concepts by applying the Quick On The Draw technique is better than understanding students  mathematical concepts by applying conventional learning to grade IX students of SMP Pertiwi 2 Padang in the academic year 2018/2019. This type of research is experimental research, with a random design of subjects. The study population was all students of class IX of Pertiwi 2 Padang in the academic year 2018/2019. Random sampling technique, selected class IX 3 as the experimental class and class IX 2 as the control class. The instrument used was the final test in the form of an essay with the reliability of the test was  . Based on the results of data analysis it is known that the two sample classes are normally distributed and have a homogeneous variance. The results of the hypothesis test obtained that  and =1,671 because  then the hypothesis is rejected. So it can be concluded that understanding students mathematical concepts by applying Quick On The Draw Technique is better than understanding students mathematical concepts by applying conventional learning in Class IX of SMP Pertiwi 2 Padang.
