Abstrak :

This research is motivated by the following problems Students have difficulty writing explanatory texts. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability to write explanatory texts without, with and the effect of using the Problem Based Instuction learning model of Grade XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Tungkal Ulu Jambi. This type of research is quantitative using experimental methods. The design of this study is Posstest only Control Design. The population of this study was all students of class XI of SMA Negeri 3 Tungkal Ulu Jambi. The sample in this study were students of class XI IPA 1 and XI IPA 2. The data in this study were scores on the ability to write explanatory texts without and using the Problem Based Instruction learning model of class XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Tungkal Ulu Jambi. Based on the results of the study can be concluded as follows. The ability to write explanatory texts for class XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Tungkal Ulu Jambi without and using the Problem Based Instruction learning model obtained an average score of 66.44 at a range of 66-75% with qualifications more than enough and an average of 79.10, based on the t-test the effect of tcount (7.07)> ttable (1.67). So, the ability to write explanatory texts using the Problem Based Instruction learning model of class XI students of SMA Negeri 3 Tungkal Ulu Jambi is better than without using the Problem Based Instruction learning model.
