Abstrak :


            The background of this research are the lower  motivation of students to give a question in teaching learning process and the scores that students get is lower than  standard of minimum completeness of mastery learning (KKM). The purpose of this research is to know whether applying the strategy type of Active Learning Starts With A Question to the students of IX SMP 1 PGRI Padang better than using the strategy of conventional learning. The method of this research is experimental research. However, the technique sampling that researcher use is technique random sampling. The population were all of the students IX grade of SMP PGRI 1 Padang that consist 4 classes, the population take randomly class of IX. 4 as the experiment class, while class of  IX. 3 as the control class. Moreover, the instrumentation of this research is the final test. The hypothesis is t one side, while  the result of hyphothesis thitung = 1,82 and ttable = 1,62 because thitung  >  ttable,  the hyphothesis is acceptable. Meanwhile , the conclusion of this research is that the result of students IX SMP  PGRI 1 Padang by using the strategy type of Active Learning Starts With A Question is better that using strategy of conventional learning.
