Backgrounds of the research were that student mathematical concept understanding was still low, and students who were less active in the learning process. This study aimed to determine whether the student mathematical concept understanding by implementing the Talking Stick learning model was better than student mathematical concept understanding without applying the Talking Stick learning model to students of class VII MTsN 2 Sikakap Mentawai Islands Regency. It was an experimental study using research design i.e.random on subjects. The population consisted of two classes. The sampling technique was conducted randomly where it was selected class VII2 as an experimental class and class VII1 as a control class. The instruments were the essay final test where r11 = 1.0301. The data analysis technique used one tail t-test. Hypothesis test shows that α = 0.05 where t count = 2.20 and t table = 1.68. Because t count > t table or 2.20> 1.68. Then the proposed hypothesis is accepted. It is concluded that the student mathematical concept understanding using the Talking Stick learning model is better than student mathematical concept understandings without applying the Talking Stick learning model to students of class VII MTsN 2 Sikakap Mentawai Islands Regency.
