The fading of culture often begins because the next generation cannot afford to preserve their own culture. However, that does not mean that all existing cultures just disappear. There are various traditions that still show their exixtence even creatively continue to develop without being oppressed by the process of modernization. Those who still respect the culture and maintain its tradition are the Nagari Gunung Malintang. In Nagari, the tradition of Alek Bakajang still exist today. The purpose of thiiis studying is to descriibe the procedurres for implementing the Alek Bakajang traditioen and describe the reacons for the community still preserving th tradition of Alek Bakajang in Nagari Gunung Malintang. The theory used is the theoriy of Phenomenologiy by Alfred Schutz. Thiis reseaarch is a qualitative study using descriptive type. Data collection methods used are through non-participant observation interviews and document studies. Informants in this study were 14 people. Analiysis of the data used is to use data analysis according to Miles and Huberman with the stages of data collection, data reductiion, data presenttation and verifiication. The results of this study indicate that the procedures for implementing the tradition of Alek Bakajang are (1) Opening Ceremony, (2) Core Event above Surau, (3) Entertaiment Program, (4) Closing Event. Then the reasons for the community still preserving the tradition of Alek Bakajang in Nagari Gunung Malintang are (1) Maintaning the Existing Traditions (2) Building the Nagari Child’s Cohesiveness (3) Maintaining Brotherhood and (4) Making Limapuluh Kota Regency Travel Destinations.
