Batang Kuranji River is used for various purposes such as sand quarrying, household activities such as washing, bathing, fish ponds, and as a place for tofu factory waste disposal around the banks of the Batang Kuranji river, making these activities cause the condition of the Batang Kuranji river water to be polluted. Thus affecting the physical chemistry conditions of water that affect the presence of phytoplankton composition. The method used is descriptive survey, by determining three stations by purposive sampling based on environmental conditions. The sample identification was carried out at the Botani Laboratory of Biology Education Study Program STKIP PGRI West Sumatra. The results obtained phytoplankton in the Batang Kuranji River in Padang City as many as 19 genera, included in 3 classes, 7 orders and 12 families, while for the physical chemistry conditions of waters, such as temperature, current speed, CO2, Nitrogen, DO, and TSS support the life of phytoplankton The pH of the waters is less supportive for phytoplankton life.
