Abstrak :

     This study aims to describe the understanding of the students mathematical concept by implementing the  discovery learning model and recognizing the improvement of the students mathematical concept of class VIII students of MTsN 3 Sijunjung in the discovery learning model. This study uses the experimental study in which the population of the study all the students of MTsN 3 Sijunjung. The collecting of the sample in this study uses purposive sampling. The instrument of the study is both  pre-test and post-test. The data of the study is  analyzed by Gain (g) and N-gain. The results of this study shows that there is an 18% improvement of the understanding of the students concept, considered as high-rated improvement 70% of the students considered as the medium-rated improvement, and 12% of the students considered as the low-rated improvement. Furthermore, the study also shows that there is no students found as high-rated achievement of the understanding of the students mathematical concept. Mean while, there is 53% of the students considered as low-rated achievement of the students mathematical concept and 47% of the students considered as medium-rated achievement. Thus, it can be concluded that by implementing the discovery learning model, the student mathematical concept is improved in medium-rated category.
